Types of Air Car Filters
In order to run a car engine, the air-fuel mixture must be free of foreign particles. The car air filter prevents dust and other contaminants from getting into the fuel.The proportions of the mixture, the power of the engine, its durability and the level of consumption depend on this car part. Earlier, air filters for the car of inertial and inertial-oil design were widely used. Nowadays, paper models are used, which are divided into several categories:- Ring-shaped — have filter paper between two layers of sealant-foam;
- Cylindrical — such shape allows to increase the surface area and improve the performance of the component;
- Panel — made in the form of a rectangle, on one side of which there is a seal, sometimes supplemented with a layer of felt.
Features of Car Fuel Filters
In order for the engine to function properly, there must be clean fuel flowing into the engine. Car fuel filters prevent contaminants from getting into the fuel mixture. They are used in cars with gasoline and diesel engines, the type of engine determines the features of the filter element installation.
There are two types of fuel filters: coarse and fine cleaning. The first one is made in the form of a grid, which prevents large particles of contaminants from reaching the fuel pump. Fine-cleaning car fuel filter operation is ensured by the presence of a membrane, on which small contaminants settle. This element affects trouble-free operation of the nozzles. The differences between fuel filters are related to their use and design:
- Submersible models are installed in the fuel tank;
- Once-through filters clean the fuel coming from the tank;
- The fuel car filter can be connected to the return line;
- Heated elements make it easier to start the diesel engine during freezing weather.
Depending on the type of fine car filters, the housing can be plastic or metal, collapsible or non-collapsible. Different elements have a different number of protection stages.
Types of Oil Car Filters
Oil filters for cars prevent metal particles from entering the lubricants. While moving parts are in contact with each other, metal chips are inevitably produced, which have a negative impact on the system components, acting as an abrasive. To prevent this from happening, the following types of oil filters are used:
- Mechanical;
- Magnetic;
- Gravity;
- Centrifugal.
Despite their similar design, there are some differences in oil filters. Mechanical type products are supplied assembled or have a replaceable inner part. Some elements are designed for coarse cleaning, others for medium or fine cleaning. In order for car oil filters to fully perform their function, it is necessary to replace them every time the technical fluid is changed.
Types of Cabin Filters
Cabin filters for cars perform a very important function: they create a healthy microclimate. These elements remove pollutants from the air that are harmful to the human respiratory system. Contaminants can penetrate into the cabin with air from heating, air conditioning, ventilation systems. The degree of purification depends on the type of cabin filter:
- Barrier filter is able to clean the air from large polluting particles;
- Electret filter removes the smallest contaminants, this effect is achieved using static electricity;
- Coal filter eliminates odors and purifies the air by means of a layer of activated carbon;
- Biofunctional filters neutralizes bacteria and allergens, using polyphenol coating for this purpose.
Depending on the type of cabin filter and car design, the filter element is installed under the dashboard, under the glove compartment or behind it. Replacement timing is determined by the manufacturer. However, if the windows in the car fog up or a large amount of dust or undesirable odors are felt, it is recommended to replace the cabin car filter.
Regular replacement of elements, proper choice of them, taking into account the differences between car filters can prolong the life of the car, protect the driver’s and passengers’ from negative influences.
